By hour three, he was up about two hundred dollars equivalent. He cashed out. He initiated a withdrawal to his Ledger. Stake collected a network fee (paid to the Bitcoin blockchain miners, not Stake itself), around thirty dollars to confirm quickly. His transaction was on-chain within six minutes.
The cryptographic verification gave him something traditional poker doesn't offer: absolute certainty of balance and transaction history. He could see his exact profit on the blockchain, verified by thousands of nodes. No casino audit, no house record, just math.
The players at the table were mostly Americans and Europeans. One player had a Thailand timezone. The game was nine-handed when David left, with a waiting list of five people. The room was continuously running, never closing, never experiencing the "slow night" problem of physical casinos. The house could operate with zero minimum players and zero staffing cost.
What struck David in retrospect wasn't the novelty of Bitcoin. It was the transparency. Every hand lived on the blockchain forever. His account balance was verifiable. The rake was calculated the same way every hand, every time. There was something oddly comforting about that immutability, even as it meant his losing sessions were permanently recorded too.
